Club Events (Copy)

Now that we approach the end of the 2024 Season, we have in the club a series of events to keep us together and socialising. Beginning with our end of season function, this is traditionally and historically been a well attended event and we look for this to continue. Those brave enough to face the elements on Sat 26 Oct, will be able to return to the clubhouse at 3pm for refreshments and a buffet. The day will consist of music/karaoke if you wish to sing your heart out. We will have our traditional end of season raffle and already we have some magnificent prizes donated. Loch Lomond holiday Parks have donated two short breaks for our raffle, which consist of 3-4 day stay in a two bedroom hot tub lodge for up to 4 people. So we have two of these to raffle, also many thanks again to LLAIA for the donation of a season permit for 2025 season, again this is very much appreciated and will be raffled on the night. We will have many more prizes on the night so make sure you come along and join us.

August Fishing Competition

Our latest fishing competition took place yesterday and again the response from our members was impressive with a small increase to 22 entrants from last months 21. This event has proven to be very popular amongst our membership and has benefitted all in relation to the increase in friendships both socially and sportingly.
With a good pot to the winners of both categories for largest Salmon and largest Sea Trout the anglers braved a very strong wind throughout the day. The largest Salmon was won by club member Donald Brown and the largest Sea Trout was won by club member Alun Pryce.
On a day of high winds and challenging conditions club member Alex Doey came to the rescue of two paddle boarders who had got into difficulty off Auchentulloch bay, with the wind preventing them returning to shore. Alex took in his rods in and initially told them to hold onto his boat but eventually had to throw them a rope and tow them back to shore. It highlights although the Loch is a beautiful place it is also very dangerous. A big thank you to Alex for helping the paddle boarders return to shore.
The date of next months competition will be uploaded as soon as it is confirmed, and again there must be recognition to the time and effort Robert and Sandra Ann have put into making this event such a success.
Continuing with our series of events, we have a country and western night on the 24 Oct, tickets are priced at £5 and are available to our members, their family and friends.
A reminder to members the club will be open on 18 & 25 Oct from 12.30 - 3pm to enable members to pay the second instalments of their club fees.

Sat 1 June, VOLDAC and Walking with the wounded Fish Loch Lomond.

On Saturday 1 June 2024 after much planning and support from VOLDAC, LLAIA, Robert Hart from Tickers Tackle who has been exceptional in supporting the Forces to fishing programme by donating fishing tackle to the charity and William Cairns the lead from Walking with the wounded. 12 boats and 16 WWTW members went for a days fishing on the big puddle. For sailing the weather was exceptional and for fishing it was not so good, but several species were caught mainly Pike and Sea Trout with Salmon remaining elusive. To add a a competitive edge to the day there was a trophy to the biggest game fish and if no game fish were caught then the biggest Pike. A 15lb Pike was caught but was beaten by Nigel’s 3lb Sea Trout who went on to collect the trophy. If you want to share our experience of the day click on the link below. Sat 1 June, DAY UP THE Loch

Following on from the success of our open day with the Veterans from the charity Walking with the wounded, our next activity together is on Sat 1 June where we will take them for a day up the Loch. Due to the success of our last venture there has been an increase in interest from the veterans and at this pint we have 21 who would like to join us for the day and 10 members who have volunteered. As we would ask each member to take two per boat we don't have the capacity to accommodate all, William is also going to compile reserve list.

If any other of our members would like to volunteer their day and take two of the veterans, could they get in touch with a committee member. As mentioned previously their is a great deal of enthusiasm from the veterans and it would be of benefit to them if we were able to accomodate all who wished to participate in the day, so if you can please get ijn touch with a committee member.

Sat 4 May

As we approach another weekend a reminder that this Saturday we have our fishing open day with the army veterans charity Walking With The Wounded. We have now finalised our itinerary for the day. Doors open 9.30 am for welcome, Tea and Coffee. From 10am we will have several display areas where the veterans and our members can have a go at learning to tie a fly, learn how to set up a pike bait rig and see a display of spey casting. From 12 noon, Dr Nick Beever from the Loch Lomond fishery trust will give a short presentation on Salmon conservation. We Invite and encourage our members to join us on Saturday meet and share fishing stories and say hello to Paul Young of Hooked on Scotland fame.

Presentation Evening

VOLDAC celebrated their annual presentation evening, as usual there was various trophies to be awarded for anglers who had met the criteria to win the trophies.

The picture shows centre front Donald Brown who was this years club champion. Donald has been a member since his youth and has developed into an accomplished, knowledgeable and competent angler and he was well deserved as this years club champion. Flanking Donald id Daniel Steel who was last years club champion and has excelled in his ability to seek out fish in our big Loch. On the other side of Donald is Phil Shannon, again another experienced angler who has fished the Loch for many years and has exceptional knowledge of where to find the fish. The trophies they have been awarded are for various categories in catching fish. Standing and pictured behind Donald is Club President Rab Mair, again Rab has fished the Loch for many years and has shown exceptional qualities as a boats man navigating the Loch in difficult conditions. Rab is pictured with the Les Dawson Trophy, which relates to the TV programme Blankety Blank which Les hosted for many years. This trophy is awarded to the angler who has gone a full season without catching a fish, hence blankety blank.

The evening was well attended by members and their guests and all had a good time.
